About Me

Meet Shyla!

I am a Christian, a therapist, a wife, a mom & a community advocate.

Finding the right therapist can seem daunting. No doubt you’ve searched Google and found countless profiles and websites and just haven’t found someone that speaks to you. You may be at the point of giving up and I get it.

The search for a therapist that you click with can sometimes be enough to make you want to quit. Hopefully my page makes it easy to figure out who I am and what I can offer.

First, let’s get the awkward out of the room. My name is pronounced Shy (as in being timid) and lah.

Alright, I am a Christian which to me means I am in love with Jesus. This is the foundation of everything that I am. This is where my love for others and desire to help see everyone walking in freedom and fullness comes from. As a Christian Therapist my work is Christ centered, biblically based, and Spirit filled.

I am a wife of an amazing husband who I have known since I was 14! We have 4 beautiful kids who keep us more than busy with sports and other activities. The ocean is my happy place. I love doing any and all things with my family whether it’s binging a tv show, watching movies or cheering my babies on at their games.

I have been pursuing this dream of helping others for a while in many capacities. I strongly believe in doing your part to enhance your community. This has fueled many community advocacy activities, but most prominent is Brother’s Keeper of which I am the co-owner of alongside my husband. Brother’s Keeper is a volunteer organization which feeds and clothes the homeless and those in need in Eastern North Carolina. Keep up-to-date with what we are doing HERE.

To further enhance my helping skills, I returned to school while having 3 babies at home all 10 and under and graduated with my Bachelor’s degree in Psychology with a minor in Christian Counseling. Next, I continued on to receive my Master’s in Social Worker from East Carolina University to which I walked the stage 8 months pregnant with our 4th baby – I was kind of determined to get that done! I am currently earning my Doctorate Degree in Community Care Counseling with a focus in Trauma work from Liberty University.

Lastly, I am a therapist who aims to help my clients sort through the chaos of their lives to find clarity, direction & purpose. I recognize that many are struggling with mental fog (to say the least) and I view my role as a therapist as one who is here to help them navigate their way out back towards life again.

That was a lot, whew…

I hope you can see though that I get your struggle. Trying to juggle a million different roles every day shifting between being a spouse, parent, employee, friend, business owner, community member and on and on is exhausting. What’s worse is that in all the worrying and juggling you lose sight of who you are. This part right here is a nagging thought that stresses you out tremendously. It only amps up the stress. It’s beyond frustrating. I get it.

Imagine walking through life confident again. Free of the worry and exhaustion and actually knowing who you are and what you want out of life. I know this seems unimaginable right?! But trust someone who’s been there, it is! Therapy is the place to get this done. The place to sort through all the worry, frustration and pain & learn to live again. Living a life where you’re at peace and have confidence is possible. Let’s start the journey together. Contact me today for your free 15 minute virtual consultation.
